The nautical term "fouling" refers to the growth of organic matter on the outside of boats and ships. This can be algae, mussels, barnacles and other shellfish. These cause a loss of speed by as much as 20%: a particularly important factor for rescue ships. Fouling can activate corrosion on steels hulls, increase the osmoses reaction on polyester hulls and the rotting of wooden hulls.

Slebos Research B.V. has developed an anti-fouling process that keeps the underwater parts of boats and ships clean. This process is based on electrolysis: a copper and an aluminum rod are mounted in a stainless steel frame and when connected they form an electrolytic cell. Once this is energized a cloud of copper ions are given off and rise from the keel. These are toxic to the organism that cause fouling but are otherwise safe. As a result the underwater section of the boat or ship remains clean, without having to get it out of the water.

Now available in France, we invite you to discover this new anti fouling method which will revolutionize the nautical world...
